Acne is a very common skin problem, and it affects more than just teenagers. Moderate acne is a problem for people of all ages. Men and women in their 20s, 30s, even 40s and older can have this issue. In fact, recent estimates claim that as many as 30 percent of adult women and 20 percent of adult men up to 60 years of age can have problems with acne. Sure, there are always over-the-counter remedies and treatments, but what do you do if those don’t work for you? At Facial Aesthetic Concepts, we may have the solution you have been seeking: BLU-U photodynamic therapy.
BLU-U photodynamic therapy (PDTA) is an effective way to treat moderately-inflamed acne in the comfort of the doctor’s office. This treatment is showing excellent results for people whose acne is not resolving with regular methods.
There are no antibiotics or medications used when treating acne with BLU-U PDTA. This is a light-based therapy that treats acne by killing the bacteria in the skin that causes the acne to develop in the first place. This is a treatment that can only be done by medical professionals in a clinic setting, but the results are excellent. And when you come to Facial Aesthetic Concepts for your treatment, you can be confident that it is all being done under the guidance and care of trained and qualified medical professionals.
BLU-U treatment is a very simple process. When you come to the office for your session, you will be seated in a comfortable chair that holds your face close to the specially-designed BLU-U light for a short period of time — usually about 17 minutes or so. For most people, treatment is done once or twice a week and the full course runs approximately five weeks; your actual length of treatment may vary, depending on the severity of the acne and how quickly you show results.
The treatment is not hot or uncomfortable, and there is little to no pain or discomfort associated with BLU-U PDTA. You just come in, sit down, and relax while the light does all the work. You should see improvement after just a few treatments and notice that your skin looks better and better with each visit to the doctor’s office.
BLU-U is a light treatment, but it is not a laser treatment. The light used does not emit any potentially harmful ultraviolet rays. BLU-U uses the power of fluorescent light and therefore can be safely used anywhere acne is a problem for you, whether that is the face, back or chest.
There is very little downtime or adverse reactions associated with BLU-U PDTA, and no scarring has been reported. You may be advised to avoid exposure to sunlight for 40 hours (or slightly longer, at the advice of your dermatologist), but otherwise, you are safe to return to your normal, everyday activities as soon as your session is over. So no pain, no side effects, no discomfort — just clearer skin and less worry.
If you would like more information on whether BLU-U PDTA is the right choice for your moderate acne, call our office today and come in for a consultation appointment. We will answer your questions and get you on the road to clearer, healthier skin.
