Debbie’s Flab-U-Less Story
At 53, I’ve seen what I call “the ski slope effect” take a hold of my body. To me, this skiing analogy is a perfect illustration of the aging process… Click here to read more
When you are in your 20’s, aging is like skiing the bunny runs. Your body bounces back pretty easily and is as “forgiving” as it’s ever going to be. Enjoy that smooth, slow glide down the gently slope of that hill.
The 30’s are more like the intermediate run. The slope is a little more difficult to navigate and it hurts a little more when you fall than it did when you were on the bunny run. I realized that I was in this part of the aging analogy one day when I was blow drying my hair. I flipped my head upside down to dry underneath and I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. I was shocked to see that my cheeks sagging over the lower part of my eyes. Ouch!
When you hit your 40’s, you get to the part of the mountain with moguls. Just as those snow covered bumps are very visible, so too are the signs of aging – at least if you haven’t had the benefit of being a patient at Facial Aesthetic Concepts. You learn that gravity is no longer your friend. I knew I was firmly entrenched in the moguls when my son starting playing with my underarm “flubber” one day while I was driving him to school.
Now, welcome to the 50’s. I equate this decade to the black diamond ru — it’s straight down hill . . . and fast! Hormones wreak havoc and your metabolism slows down. In spite of working out and watching your diet, those stubborn fat areas refuse to go away – that is, at least without good medical intervention!
I had my introduction to “medical intervention” last January when Botox and Juvederm became my new BFF’s. Here’s what prompted me finally do something: 2011 was an incredibly difficult year for me and I was determined that 2012 was going to be different. My husband, a two-time cancer survivor, went in for routine hernia repair surgery last summer. During that surgery, the doctor found something totally unexpected and even more unwanted – a suspicious mass. It looked like we were going to be walking down the “C” road for the third time in our 33 years together. Thankfully, the mass turned out to be benign! But that experience aged me, and it showed. Let’s put it this way: If I ordered from the Senior menu at Denny’s, the server wouldn’t have bothered to card me.
I desperately want to reclaim some of those years that have been added to my physical appearance. CoolSculpting provides a great opportunity for me to do just that. So please, “Pick me, pick me!” I don’t want to feel the cold of crashing on that treacherous black diamond run; I want to feel the cold of having depressing fat removed from my body through CoolSculpting.
Thank you for your consideration!
Debbie’s Treatment Story
When I was researching the possibility of having the CoolSculpting procedure done, I had a number of questions about it. If you’re considering the procedure, I’m guessing that you may have some of the exact same questions… Click here to read more
So, before I tell you about my experience, let me answer the questions I started with:
Does it really work?
Absolutely! The results are undeniable. The fat reduction in my treated areas is very noticeable – not just in terms of the way my clothes fit, but also visually.
Does it hurt?
No, it was not painful. However, I did experience some definite discomfort both during the procedure and afterward. (Don’t let this scare you off! Just keep reading.)
How long does it take to see results?
In my personal experience, I started seeing (and feeling) a loss of fat within the first two weeks. And it wasn’t a figment of my imagination because I had measurable reduction when I went back for my post-procedure check.
Would I recommend it to a friend?
Already have! If you had told me a couple of months ago that I’d be showing off my bare belly to a co-worker, I would have told you that you were crazy. But I did!
Would I do it again?
Already have! Facial Aesthetic Concepts generously treated three areas for me. But I wanted a fourth area done, so I covered that myself. And I couldn’t be happier about the investment.
I was shocked and thrilled when Chris called me to say that I had been selected to be one of the CoolSculpting recipients. I had been doing research on CoolSculpting, as well as about a different fat reduction procedure which uses laser technology. I knew a few people who had done the other procedure, but nobody who had done CoolSculpting. My friends’ reviews of the laser treatment were less than glowing. That procedure covered several areas at one time, but it required six separate 40 minute visits. Plus, they had to follow a pretty specific diet over the course of their treatments. I was so excited about the prospect of targeting a few of my fatty areas all within one or two visits – and without having to follow a restricted diet.
When I walked into FAC’s office for my consultation, I felt so special. Everyone knew that I was coming and they greeted me with great excitement. They were genuinely happy for me! Darcy (who would eventually do my treatments) took me into a room where she explained that she needed to make sure I was a “candidate” for the procedure. My first thought was, “Dang! This may not happen after all.” But the fact that she wanted to make sure that the procedure was a good fit for me was incredible. She explained that CoolSculpting isn’t for everyone. It’s not a treatment for very overweight people. Instead, it’s designed for people with stubborn fat areas that don’t respond to diet and exercise: CHECK – that’s me! She snapped some “before” photos and we scheduled two appointments – one for my upper and lower abdomen and one for the “bra area” on my back.
One week later, I was back. I was given some very (not) attractive undergarments to wear. Then, Darcy came in and took more pictures and some measurements. She marked areas on my upper and lower abdomen with a special template that showed her where to put the device. I lied down on the table and she put a gelled “connector sheet” on my lower abdomen before placing the CoolSculpting device over it. During my consultation, I learned that there are different sized heads for the device. True confession here: I needed the “large” head to treat my lower ab area. Once it was in place, Darcy started the procedure and my fat was literally sucked up into the device.
The best way I can describe what it felt like is to compare it to a mammogram – you are squished, stretched and cold. But after a little while, those feelings go away. I got numb and all I really felt was a pressure on my lower abdomen. (Hint: Be sure to use the restroom before your procedure.)
After an hour, Darcy returned. She was wearing a timer so she knew exactly when the treatment would be done. She removed the device to reveal what resembled a frozen stick of butter. It looked very weird. She massaged it to redistribute the dead fat (which I understood would slowly be absorbed and discarded by my body).
Next up . . . my upper abdominal area. Same steps. But because I only needed a small head for this area, it was less uncomfortable. I left feeling numb in both of my treated areas. Over the next week, the numbness was replaced by tingling as my nerve endings started to wake up. This lasted about a week. I did find it to be uncomfortable, so I tried to wear as many loose-fitting clothes as possible.
One week after my first treatments, I returned to have my back bra area done. This involved two one-hour sessions – one on the right side, one on the left side. I guess we have fewer nerve endings in that area than we do in the ab area so these treatments were a piece of cake! Within a couple of weeks, the bulge I used to see on my back at the bra line was visibly reduced.
After about a month and a half, I returned for a post-procedure check. Once again, Darcy took measurements and pictures. Results: Loss of one inch in EACH of the treated areas – lower abdomen, upper abdomen and back. And now I can personally say that “Seeing IS believing!” Just take a look at my before and after pictures. I couldn’t be happier with the results. I’m so grateful to Dr. Gangnes, Dr. Miller and all of the staff at FAC for this amazing opportunity!

Tiffany’s Flab-U-Less Story
As I weep in front of a closet full of skinny jeans, I ponder: How did this happen? I’m shaped like an apple, actually, I’m more like an ice cream cone…Click here to read more
Sturdy is what my Grandmother said. I’m sure she meant it as a compliment. I’ve always had a belly, even during my triathlon days when my body fat was barely double digits. Add 3 small children, a career, volunteering, and my 40th birthday – well, here we are. When I say “we” I mean me and my muffin.
I know that in many parts of the country being 5 foot 4, 130lbs and having muffin top is fine. But muffalicious = Orange County Obese. I spent the two years after my twins were born blaming baby fat, but since they’ve turned 4, I have to face the facts.
It was just before Christmas when I tried to squeeze into my ski clothes from college that it all came crashing down and I realized: It’s now or never. Every spring I say to myself: This is the summer I’m going to walk around on the beach in a bikini, without a sundress, without my hands placed strategically over my love handles, without sucking in until I gasp for breath. In the summer I call it my life preserver, but no matter what you call it, it’s bad news.
The good news is that with 40 comes wisdom. I can get help! It’s not cheating, and who cares if it is? I hired a trainer and we work out 3x a week, she says cardio 3x a week on top of working out with her is a must, but it’s hard to squeeze in. I run/walk the beach trail on Thursdays, and I chase after my kids regularly, but that muffin still follows me! I eat pretty healthy, especially with little kids; I can’t shove organic broccoli down their throats if I’m chowing down carbs. I even cut back on wine, which honestly, makes me a saint because I have 3 kids under age 6, my husband works crazy-long hours and I’m a member of some really good wine clubs.
That brings me to why I deserve a Flab-U-less makeover. I’ve been a loyal FAC customer for years, I absolutely love, trust & highly recommend your staff, especially Darcy, Fabbi and Sharon – those girls have seen things no mere mortal should have to endure while treating me. I know I’m a candidate for Coolsculpting, I had one treatment and already see results, one more and I’ll be so ready for that bikini. Choose me – you’ll be doing all of OC a favor!
Tiffany’s Treatment Story
I decided to have Coolsculpting because I’m genetically cursed; I’m shaped like an apple and my entire adult life I’ve had marks on my waist from my pants. Even when I was at my thinnest I had a pooch; add 3 little kids, a career, volunteering, and my 40th birthday and now I also have muffin top…Click here to read more
I work out and eat right, but I always want to lose a few pounds and no amount of dieting and crunches seem to tame this thing. I was at Facial Aesthetic Concepts for a facial and saw some of the before and after photos and I was intrigued, then FACe ran a special and I jumped. I’m SO glad I did. I am so happy with my results!
I had Coolsculpting on my lower abs with the large applicator and on my love handles with the small applicators. Each area took an hour to complete with a few minutes in between to get set up; I was at the RSM office for a little over 3 hours. I really didn’t know what to expect because I barely listened to a word Darcy said during my consultation, I just looked at the FACe girls’ before and after pics and signed up. No anesthesia, knives or needles? I’m in!
I went into the procedure room and Darcy gave me a giant pair of paper shorts to put on with my own tank top. She measured and weighed me and I lay down on the table propped up on some pillows. First she put a gooey barrier cloth between my skin and the applicator, it felt like a cold, wet paper towel. Then she put the large applicator on my lower abdomen and moved it a bit to get into the best position. It’s like a vacuum with a square nozzle, and once it was on the right spot it sucked my fat into the capsule and started the freezing process. It doesn’t hurt, but it’s a bit of a surprise and kind of an odd feeling; my belly roll is being sucked into a freezing machine! It’s cold but in just a few minutes I was numb and didn’t feel a thing. I sat there for 50 minutes checking out Facebook on my iPad. It was completely painless. About 10 minutes before the hour was up, the machine made a little noise and started a massaging process. I barely felt it, only the beep let me know it was happening. Then Darcy came in, took off the applicator, removed the barrier cloth, and there was my belly fat, frozen into a block roughly the size and shape of a stick of butter. Gross, but painless. Darcy wiped the goop off and massaged the frozen fat down for maybe 3 minutes, then we started on the sides. My belly was cold to the touch but I was completely numb and didn’t feel any discomfort at all, just a little tingling. The process was the same for both love handles. I had no pain or discomfort.
After the procedure, I got dressed and went home, my jeans felt tight around the waist so I put on yoga pants. Darcy told me to expect a little swelling and mild bruising. I didn’t bruise, I hickeyed. I had reddish-brown hickey-type marks on my love handles for about 3 days. No hickeys or bruising on my lower abs. The first 3 days were fine, I was a little swollen and tender, but I did my regular routine including working out, going to work, sleeping, playing with my kids, etc. Days 4 through 7 were a little uncomfortable in my lower abdominal area, but not on my sides. I had pins and needles in my lower abs and some very mild cramping but it didn’t stop me from my normal routine. I took Tylenol and wore a light support garment (Spanx) and it helped lessen the discomfort. My sides were fine and once the initial swelling and numbness wore off, my love handles looked a lot smaller. On the 5th night I took a Benedryl to help me sleep. I wouldn’t say that it was painful, but the area was tender and I had some odd, tingling sensations that came and went. The sides were much less intense than the lower ab area. I explain it like this: You know that feeling when your hand or foot falls asleep? It’s that, but in your stomach. And when it happens in your foot, you wiggle your foot and it goes away. This feels weird because its’ in an unusual place and it doesn’t go away for a few days, although it does decrease each day. I think Days 4-6 were the worst of it, but it wasn’t anything I couldn’t live with.
By the end of the first week I saw a difference in my love handles and could feel a difference in the waistband of my jeans. By the end of the second week I could see a difference all over, and measured an inch smaller. By my 4 week follow up I was 2 inches smaller and had a very noticeable difference in my muffin top, I had also lost about 4 lbs. I’m at 6 weeks after now and I am so happy I had this done. I look so much better and I feel great, it has been extremely motivating!
I’m so glad I did it and I wish I hadn’t waited so long. The big deterrent for me was that I didn’t want to pay a lot for a procedure that wasn’t going to produce serious results. I know results vary but I’m thrilled so far. I can’t wait to have another session and I’d recommend Coolsculpting to anyone who has a problem area and is tired of it. Yes, it’s kind of expensive, but the confidence I feel is priceless. It was SO worth it!
