In recent years, the backside has come to the forefront of plastic surgery. Some celebrities have made robust derrieres very desirable and plastic surgeons have received more requests for butt reshaping and lifting. Patient concerns with their behinds vary in nature from deflated buttocks that have dropped to a less than ideal position, to buttocks that have little distinction from the lower back. This often results in a lack of waist definition, which many women want to return to after having children or simple weight gain. The procedures that are utilized in this region include the buttocks lift, reduction and augmentation.
Butt lifts are most often performed by repositioning the junction of the upper butt and the lower back, which produces not only a lift of the buttocks, but a narrowing of the waist and often a more appealing midsection as well. Often the procedure is done by leaving behind as much natural buttock as possible to maintain a nice round shape to the area. Some patients that have a large amount of excess backside need a similar procedure, which also entails re-contouring the shape of the buttocks to both lift and reduce its projection.
A newer procedure used to augment the existing buttocks to enhance the area is the usage of fat injections to increase volume, creating a fuller, rounder butt. This requires a patient to have some excess fat that can be harvested from elsewhere on the body, typically the lower back, stomach, or thighs, which is re-injected into the butt to create the desired shape and projection.
Whatever approach is taken, reshaping the buttocks “rounds out” a surgeon’s tools to restore sexy curves.
