A microlift is a non-invasive version of a facelift that affects the upper two-thirds of the face. It is designed to make the skin appear smooth and taut, as if the client were wearing a high ponytail. The microlift is an outpatient procedure that typically takes less than two hours to complete.
What does a Microlift Involve?
The microlift is typically performed in a medical professional’s office. This procedure can be done using endoscopic technology or more traditional incision-based techniques — the technique chosen varies depending on each patient’s unique surgical goals and current state of health.
What is the Recovery Period Like?
The patient will rest at home for a couple of days after the procedure. Once this period of time has passed, they may then resume their usual activities, including work or school. Some patients may require pain medication following treatment, while others are able to recover without it. Because of the location of the incisions, no scars are visible after treatment.
The most common side effects following treatment are redness and swelling at the incision sites. Some patients develop bruises that take about a week to fade completely. A few people feel tightness or numbness in and around the cheeks.
Complications are rare, but they can include infection, excessive bleeding, nerve damage, asymmetry, and abnormally slow healing. Clients who develop such complications should call their doctor.
How Long do the Results of this Procedure Last?
The results of a microlift last a long time. Patients can prolong the results of this procedure by maintaining a healthy weight and following a good skincare regime. Because the patient will continue to age, the results of this procedure are, unfortunately, not completely permanent.
Who is a Good Candidate for a Microlift?
The ideal candidate will be someone in good overall health with realistic expectations. A good candidate will also follow the surgeon’s instructions about postoperative care.
Microlifts are for young or middle-aged patients who want to get rid of the early and mild signs of aging, but who do not want or need to undergo a more invasive full facelift procedure.
