Injectable dermal fillers are one of the most commonly performed treatment methods for smoothing out the skin and reducing the visible signs of aging. Filler treatments are sometimes referred to as plumping procedures because they increase the volume of tissue that lies just beneath the sin. Both Radiesse® and Restylane® are popular fillers because they do not involve any abrasive resurfacing. Both act to increase tissue volume, thereby strengthening the support layers. There are a few differences between the two treatments, however. We encourage potential clients to consider both treatment methods. When we consult with our clients, we outline both procedures and make our recommendations depending on the actual skin condition and the results desired by the individual.
About Filler Treatments
Some fillers are injectable fluid compounds that are safe to use because they consist of natural substances found in the body. Other fillers contain hyaluronic or similar acid compounds that draw in moisture and plump up the supporting tissues.
Radiesse® is a unique treatment gel that stimulates natural collagen growth. It is most effective for treating nasolabial folds and age lines. The plumping effect begins immediately, and in the months that follow, collagen production increases.
Restylane® is a laboratory-prepared form of hyaluronic acid. Although composed of the same hyaluronic acid found in nature, it has been produced in a laboratory under strict conditions; therefore; it is safe for all individuals.
How the Procedure Works
We consult with our clients and examine the facial skin closely. After we determine the underlying cause of wrinkles, folds, and discolorations, we recommend one of the two treatments.
Radiesse® is injected just beneath the skin. The gel acts as a bonding agent and strengthens the subdermal tissue. The result is a plumping effect, smoother skin, and less visible wrinkling.
Restylane® is injected in the same manner. The hyaluronic acid draws in moisture and swells the tissues beneath the skin. Fine lines, crow’s feet, and minor skin folds become much less visible.
Both Radiesse® and Restylane® become neutral after a period of time. The injectable gel is flushed from the body, with no substance remaining in the body tissue. The results are long-lasting, with subsequent treatments unnecessary for many months.
Our clients can expect visible results almost immediately. The production of collagen proceeds more slowly, with smoother, more elastic skin becoming apparent.
