Microdermabrasion, often referred to as microderm, is a cosmetic procedure that gently exfoliates the top layer of dead skin cells in order to reveal the healthier and brighter skin beneath. This skin resurfacing method is noninvasive. It also promotes the production of collagen in order to plump the skin.
Candidates for Microdermabrasion
First and foremost, you may be a good candidate for this convenient procedure if you want to achieve an overall brighter complexion and glow to your skin. Age and environmental factors can easily dull your skin tone. Microdermabrasion clears away that dull skin, allowing a more radiant layer to shine through. Microdermabrasion can also help you if you’d like to reduce fine lines, sun damage or acne scars. In addition, those with constantly clogged pores that lead to blackheads or whiteheads can benefit from the procedure. Microdermabrasion can reduce or eliminate these issues, especially with repeat sessions, and help you to maintain clear, healthy skin.
While microdermabrasion is suitable for all skin types and tones, there are some problems that cannot be addressed through this treatment. This is not the treatment to seek if you are suffering from severe skin problems like deep acne scars, eczema, rosacea or dermatitis.
How It Works
The two types of microdermabrasion most commonly used are crystal and diamond-tip. The first uses a hand piece that emits crystals onto the skin surface to provide the exfoliation of dead skin cells. After the abrasion process, the dead cells and crystals are suctioned away. In diamond-tip microdermabrasion, the hand piece is fitted with a diamond tip. That tip itself is used to polish the skin. Again, a suction is used to clear away the dead skin cells. To learn how we perform microdermabrasion, contact Facial Aesthetic Concepts.
