FAC Achieves Excellent Results for Younger-looking Hands
There is an old saying: “If you want to know a woman’s age, look at her hands.” The same is true for men. Our hands are one of the most exposed portions of our bodies, yet, when we are creating our aesthetic goals, they are often overlooked and rarely receive the attention they deserve.
And that’s a shame because our hands are one of the most revealing indicators of our true age. Aging in our hands occurs because the thin layer of skin and collagen on our hands loses volume, fat and elasticity, which results in higher visibility for the bones, tendons, and veins. Sun damage also helps reveal that our hands need as much attention as our face, neck, and other areas.
Fortunately, Facial Aesthetic Concepts has a variety of ways to rejuvenate your hands and help them reflect the age you feel. Our many hand rejuvenation treatments help restore volume and reduce the spots and blemishes that promote and aged appearance.
Radiesse Helps Erase Signs of Aging Your Hands
On the hands, two common areas of concern are loose, wrinkled skin and the spots that occur with age. The loose, wrinkled skin is usually the result of a loss of collagen through aging or sun exposure. When we lose collagen in our hands, we lose the volume that helps prevent them from looking “boney” or older than they are.
The spots and discolorations on our hands are also due primarily to aging and sun exposure. The pigment melanin helps determine our skin color. When your skin is regularly exposed to sunlight, the melanin bonds together, forming the spots that cause an aged appearance.
To help restore lost volume, FAC is now certified to use Radiesse for the hands. Radiesse is a dermal filler – the same Radiesse that has been helping reduce fine lines and wrinkles on the face for many years.
In a brief (approximately 30 minutes), painless session, Radiesse can help restore the volume lost due to collagen reduction. As Radiesse replaces the spaces where collagen existed, it reduces wrinkles and helps diminish the presence of prominent veins and bones.
Radiesse is long-lasting, too – 18 to 24 months in most cases.
IPL – Shining a light on aging hands
IPL is “Intense Pulsed Light” and is used to help eliminate irregular pigmentation and reduce excess redness. IPL also stimulates collagen production to help improve fine lines and wrinkles.
IPL works by sending intense “pulsed” light over the treatment area without damaging the skin. The light penetrates through the skin and is absorbed by the abnormally dilated vessels or pigmentation.
With IPL, there is no downtime. Most patients see a significant improvement after just one treatment but they will see additional benefits in multiple sessions.
Microdermabrasion series creates youthful hands
For uneven, lackluster skin, microdermabrasion offers a deeper exfoliation that smooths and brightens the skin on your hands. Microdermabrasion is an effective treatment for hyperpigmentation or dry skin. Microdermabrasion polishes away dead cells using ammonium oxide crystals and is customizable to your needs and tolerance.
Microdermabrasion treatments give the best results in a series and are not for everyone. To determine whether microdermabrasion is a good choice for your hands, schedule a free consultation with an FAC esthetician.
Even greater results with Enhanced Microdermabrasion
Enhanced Microdermabrasion combines our exclusive mild chemical peeling agents with a microdermabrasion treatment to provide much more dramatic results than microdermabrasion alone. Enhanced Microdermabrasion provides a manual exfoliation, via the microdermabrasion, allowing the peeling agents to penetrate deeper to damaged skin cells, revealing refreshed, healthy skin. In the hands, enhanced microdermabrasion treatments aid in the reduction of age spots, fine lines and wrinkles.
Fat Transfer to the hands creates healthy fullness
One increasingly popular option for the hands is fat grafting, which often provides superb contour and aesthetic results. Fat grafting is a proven technique that has more widely-known applications to other parts of the body, but it is also extremely effective in reducing the prominence of veins and tendons in the hands and improving skin texture and appearance.
Fat grafting helps improve the volume of the subcutaneous tissues of the hand. When combined with skin pigment therapies to reduce age spots, fat grafting can provide excellent changes that can restore natural, youthful-looking hands.
Some of these co-treatments include chemical peels and laser and light therapies to support exfoliation, improve skin elasticity and remove sun spots and freckles. Together, these treatments provide the overall aesthetic benefits to the hands that help them look as young as you feel.
Chemical peels use a specially-formulated solution to smooth the texture of your hand by removing the outer layers that have been damaged by the sun or are simply revealing signs of aging.
A chemical peel is one of the least invasive ways to improve the appearance of your skin. Sun exposure, acne, or just getting older can leave your skin tone uneven, wrinkled, spotted or scarred.
A chemical peel can help improve:
- Age and liver spots
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Irregular skin pigmentation
- Rough skin and scaly patches
- Sun-damaged skin
A chemical peel won’t help reduce the deeper lines in your hands or tighten the skin – we have other treatments for those conditions. But a chemical peel on your hands can remove telltale signs of aging and/or sun damage and help them look as young as the other areas in which you have hand aesthetic treatments.
Laser skin resurfacing may be used to treat fine wrinkles, skin discoloration, sun damage or age spots by stimulating new collagen and elastin to grow. Laser skin resurfacing treatments restore your skin’s basic support structure, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and creating hands with tighter, more youthful-looking skin.
Fractional CO2 lasers work by targeting specific areas of skin without harming healthy surrounding areas by “scattering” the energy in the light beam at a high rate that can be focused and get deeper into the skin. This resurfacing produces more dramatic results than previously possible. Fractional CO2 is more comfortable, too. While some laser treatments used intravenous local anesthesia before the procedure could begin, fractional CO2 laser treatments require only a topical anesthesia to minimize discomfort and pain.
Side effects are minimal. Some patients do experience a feeling akin to mild sunburn for a few hours to a few days, but that is the primary discomfort. Downtime is also minimal.
Fractional CO2 Laser skin resurfacing at Facial Aesthetic Concepts truly is a safe and effective option for people who are looking to reduce certain skin problems and improve the look, feel and health of the skin on the hands.
