When looking for a procedure to reduce fleshy bulges or unattractive fleshy prominence, one is usually lost for choice. Two of the most common procedures for improving physical appearance are CoolSculpting and tummy tucks. For you to know when to choose one over the other, it is important to know the basics of both procedures.
What is CoolSculpting?
Coolsculpting is a noninvasive procedure for fat reduction. Selective freezing of fat cells lowers fatty bulges by 20-25%. Many patients may require 1-3 treatments to get the best results. During the procedure, the area that is going to be treated will be marked. A transparent gel is applied to the patient’s skin. Two cooling panels are placed between the area that is to be treated. The panels work by cooling the fat cells without causing harm to the nerves or skin muscles. This treatment can take an hour.
What is a Tummy Tuck?
This is a procedure that flattens a patient’s abdomen through the removal of extra skin and fat and tightening of muscles in the abdominal wall. A tummy tuck is also known as an abdominoplasty. The two main options for tummy tucks are a complete abdominoplasty and a partial abdominoplasty. In a complete abdominoplasty, the patient’s abdomen is cut from the hipbone to hipbone. The tissue, skin, and muscle are contoured to get the desired result. This procedure involves moving your belly button. In a partial abdominoplasty, your belly button may not be moved. The procedure is done on patients with fat deposits that are below their navel.
Differences between a CoolSculpting Procedure and a Tummy Tuck
A CoolSculpting procedure is non-invasive, meaning it does not involve incisions. A tummy tuck, on the other hand, is an invasive procedure that involves cutting of skin and contouring of the skin and muscles. Therefore, the risk of infection in a CoolSculpting procedure is low compared to that of a tummy tuck.
A CoolSculpting procedure is meant to get rid of unwanted fat. A CoolSculpting procedure can remove up to 10% of fat deposits in one treatment. A tummy tuck is meant to flatten the tummy. While a tummy tuck requires only one treatment, you may have to go for several treatments to get results from a CoolSculpting procedure.
After a CoolSculpting procedure, you can expect to see the results after six weeks. For a tummy tuck, the results can be seen immediately.
Who are Suitable Candidates?
A tummy tuck should not be used by women who are planning to get pregnant or persons who want to lose massive weight. A tummy tuck is a last resort treatment for persons who were once obese and have had trouble getting rid of excess fat deposits or have loose skin around the belly.
The Coolsculpting procedure is meant for those who want a little body sculpting for those hard to get rid of fat deposits.
